Delays in Restoration of Water

NOTICE OF DELAY IN RESUMPTION OF WATER SUPPLIES TO AREAS FED BY CRITERION AND TULI RESERVOIRS.

The City of Bulawayo would like to advise members of the public that the works that were advertised as taking place at Criterion Water Works from Sunday, 7th of March 2021 to Monday, 8th of March 2021 were successfully completed as scheduled. Similarly, the repairs of the water pipeline from Ncema Water Treatment works to Tuli Reservoir were completed successfully on Sunday, 7 March 2021.

The resumption of water treatment that started yesterday, Monday, 8th March 2021 at 19:00 hours was however affected by a power outage at 02:00 hours this morning. This power outage resulted in the stoppage of water treatment up until 08:00 hours. This stoppage of treatment due to lack of electricity compromised the recovery of the Criterion Clear Water reservoir levels and all others service reservoirs that depend on it, which are Hillside, 6J and Rifle-Range.

In that regard, the three reservoirs – Hillside, 6J and Rifle-Range are relying on the Tuli reservoir. This has also affected Tuli levels and delayed water restoration to areas in its reservoir zone. In light of this development all areas below that are fed from Criterion and Tuli will experience a delay in resumption of water supplies till they recover significantly enough to enable water resupply.

Criterion Suburbs:

Bellevue, Newton West, West Sommerton, Montrose Southwold, Sizinda, Tshabalala, Nkulumane 1-12, Nketa 6,7 & 8, Emganwini, Old Pumula A, B & C, Pumula South, Pumula East, Pumula North, Pelandaba, Pelandaba West (Glendinning) Khami, Mpopoma South and Iminyela.

Tuli Suburbs:

Esigodini, Imbizo Barracks, Fortunes gate, Selbourne Park, Matsheumhlope, Parklands, Khumalo, Queenspark, Suburbs, Mahatshula, Woodville, Kingsdale, Lochview, Sunninghill, Marlands, Glencoe, Riverside, Waterford, Manningdale, Willsgrove, Buenavista, Douglasdale.

Further review will be done between end of day at 17:00 hours today and at 08:00 hour’s tomorrow morning on Wednesday, 10th of March 2021. Residents are advised to conserve water accordingly and ensure that taps remain turned off in the event that supplies are resumed earlier than projected in the event that the reservoir and system recover before then

Bulawayo City Council wishes to apologise to its valued consumers for the inconvenience likely to be caused.

Water is life. Save every drop.
