WATER AND SANITATION DEPARTMENT 15 POSTS

The following Vacancies have arisen within the City of Bulawayo:

CHARGEHAND PLUMBER - GRADE 9 (3 POSTS)
1. Main Responsibilities/ Job Summary
  1. Plans layout work from oral and written instructions for repair and maintenance of water systems.
  2. Supervises subordinates, inspects the installations and repairs of plumbing works.
  3. Liaises with the Stores person on making orders for materials to be used in carrying out repairs.
  4. Mans the city’s reservoir and the depot.
  5. Monitors Pressure Reducing Valves (P. R. Vs).
2. Qualifications Requirements
  1. A Skilled Worker Class 1 in the trade of Plumbing/Drain-laying.
  2. National Certificate in Plumbing/Drain-laying.
  3. A clean class 4 driver’s licence.
3. Experience
  1. At least 3 years’ experience in a similar environment.

b. FITTER AND TURNER - GRADE 8 (3 POSTS)

1. Main Responsibilities/ Job Summary
  1. Services pumps and assembles valves at the water reticulation plant.
  2. Services lifting equipment.
  3. Assembles mechanical pipe fittings at the plant.
  4. Supervises subordinates.
2. Qualifications Requirements
  1. A Skilled Worker Class 1 in the trade of Fitting and Turning.
  2. National Certificate in Fitting and Turning.
  3. A clean class 4 driver’s licence.
3. Experience
  1. At least 2 years` experience in a similar environment.

BOILERMAKER - GRADE 8 (1 POST)

1. Main Responsibilities/ Job Summary
  1. Fabricates water and sewer reticulation pipes.
  2. Assembles mechanical structures in booster stations
  3. Designs and produces traffic control clamps.
  4. Repairs water and sewerage treatment plants
  5. Designs, produces and installs security screen guards and devices for Council premises.
  6. Repairs broken valves, pumps and joints.
  7. Erects carports, stairways, steel roof trusses, stadia terraces.
  8. Develops and designs heavy pressure vessels, transformers, and adapters.
  9. Supervises subordinates.
  10. Analyses drawings to determine locations, positions and dimensions prior to construction.
2. Qualifications Requirements
  1. A Skilled Worker Class 1 in the trade of Boiler-making.
  2. National Certificate in Boiler-making.
  3. A clean class 4 driver’s licence.
3. Experience
  1. At least 2 year experience in a similar environment.

ELECTRICIAN - GRADE 8 (1 POST)

1. Main Responsibilities/ Job Summary
  1. Installs electrical cables and equipment in Council stations.
  2. Repairs starters, motors and equipment.
  3. Analyses schematics and drawings.
  4. Diagnoses electrical faults.
  5. Supervises subordinates.
  6. Installs borehole starters.
  7. Installs generators and services them.
  8. Interprets drawings.
2. Qualifications Requirements
  1. A Skilled Worker Class 1 in the trade of Electrical Engineering.
  2. National Certificate in Electrical Engineering.
  3. A clean class 4 driver’s licence.
3. Experience
  1. At least 2 years work experience in a similar environment.

SENIOR LABORATORY TECHNICIAN - GRADE 8 (1 POST)

1. Main Responsibilities/ Job Summary
  1. Prepares reagents.
  2. Records samples of worksheets, registers variables and lines up the samples for analysis.
  3. Calibrates instruments.
  4. Analyses samples for required parameters.
  5. Supervises waste disposal.
  6. Supervises subordinates.
2. Qualifications Requirements
  1. A Diploma in Bio-Chemistry or equivalent
  2. A clean class 4 driver’s licence.
3. Experience
  1. At least 2 years work experience in a similar environment.

WATER WORKS SUPERVISOR - GRADE 7 (2 POSTS)

1. Main Responsibilities/ Job Summary
  1. Supervises shift Water Works attendants, Water Works Assistants and Labourers.
  2. Carries out water purification and treatment in the Water Works station.
  3. Monitors maintenance of plant and equipment in the Water Works Station.
2. Qualifications Requirements
  1. A Diploma in Water and Waste Management or equivalent.
  2. A clean class 4 driver’s licence.
3. Experience
  1. At least 2 years experience in a similar environment.

SEWAGE WORKS SUPERVISOR -GRADE 7 (2 POSTS)

1. Main Responsibilities/ Job Summary
  1.  Supervises shift Sewage Works attendants, Water Works Assistants and labourers.
  2.  Carries out water purification and treatment in the Sewage Works station.
  3.  Monitors maintenance of plant and equipment in the Sewage Works Station.
2. Qualifications Requirements
  1. A Diploma in Water and Waste Management or equivalent.
  2. A clean class 4 driver’s licence.
3. Experience
  1. At least 2 years work experience in a similar environment.

DRAINLAYER - GRADE 6 (2 POSTS)

1. Main Responsibilities/ Job Summary
  1. Interprets designs and drawings.
  2. Sets out sewer lines.
  3. Measures invert levels.
2. Qualifications Requirements
  1. A Skilled Worker class 2 in the trade of Plumbing.
  2. A clean class 2 driver’s licence.
3. Experience
  1. At least 2 years work experience in a similar environment.
